Experimental arterial spasm in the lower extremities produced by traction.

چکیده
Arterial spasm in an extremity may be produced in many ways. That localised trauma is responsible for widespread spasm has been shown experimentally by Barnes and Trueta (1942) and demonstrated clinically by Cohen (1944). Spasm caused by stretching a vessel has been observed at operation many times, but no reference has been discovered to experimental stretch of the entire vascular tree of a limb having caused widespread spasm. The following experimental work was prompted by the occurrence of vascular spasm in the lower extremity after traction in the treatment of fractures of the femur in childhood (Thomson and Mahoney 1951).

Studying Changes of the Effective Radius in Blood Vessels after Exposure of Lower Extremities to Periodical Mechanical Vibrations
Background: Previous studies demonstrated a health improving effect in patients underwent an automatic vibratory massage taking 10 minutes. One of reasons that may explain a healing effect of the automatic massage is a stimulated increase in both blood circulation through vascular system and effective size of blood vessels. Objective: This paper aims to quantify a contribution of the auto...

Aims: The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of passive movements on hemodynamic parameters, including systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, pulse, and pulse pressure of patients under ventilation. Materials & Method: In this controlled clinical trial, 64 patients under ventilation in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad University of ...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF CHEWING SUGAR-FREE GUM ON THE INCIDENCE AND SEVERITY OF CONSTIPATION IN MALE PATIENTS UNDER LOWER LIMB SKELETAL TRACTION: A BLIND CLINICAL TRIAL
Background and Aim: Constipation is a common problem in orthopedic patients, therefore preventive interventions in nursing care for these patients is essential. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of chewing sugar-free gum on the incidence and severity of constipation in male patients under lower limb skeletal traction. Materials and Methods: This study was an experimental clinica...

Papaverine Hydrochloride and Experimental Hemorrhagic Cerebral A rterial Spasm • Chronic hemorrhagic spasm of the basilar artery was produced in beagle dogs by introducing blood into the cisterna magna. Spasm was evaluated by means of vertebral angiography. Papaverine hydrochloride was administered intravenously, intracisternally as well as intra-arterially. The intracisternal route was the mor...
متن کاملComparison of Rotational Traction of Athletic Footwear on Varying Playing Surfaces Using Different Normal Loads
As an athlete accelerates, stops, and changes direction, numerous forces are transmitted to the lower extremities. The interaction between an athlete’s shoe and the playing surface has been indicated as a factor in lower extremity injury risk. In particular, high rotational forces may result in increased injuries to the lower extremities. Rotational traction forces produced by eight different c...
